Two United States Army Air Forces World War II aircraft were recovered for restoration and display from two different islands in Alaska. The recovery efforts took place in 1994 and 1995. In July of 1995, a group of volunteers from the Aerospace Heritage Foundation of Utah and USAF Reservists from the 419th CLS Squadron, 67th Aerial Port Squadron from Hill Air Force Base undertook recovery efforts of a B-24 Liberator from Great Sitkin Island, Alaska. The recovered and restored aircraft now sits on display at the Hill Aerospace Museum, Hill Air Force Base, Utah.
View More InformationIn August of 1994 a group of volunteers from the Aerospace Heritage Foundation of Utah along with USAF Reservists from the 405th CLS Squadron and the 67th Aerial Port Squadron from Hill Air Force Base embarked on a mission to Buldir Island, Alaska to recover the remains of a crashed USAF P-38 Lightning. The P-38 Lightning aircraft was successfully recovered and then restored and now sits on display at the Hill Aerospace Museum at Hill Air Force Base, Utah.
